The hourglass figure is the most highly sought after figure among women. You have an hourglass figure if your bust and hips are about the same size, while your waist is significantly smaller. Some women almost have this look like Rihanna, but her bust is not quite as large making her a pear. However, just like any other body shape there are do's and don'ts when it comes to fashion advice! It's just all about knowing your body and what looks best. So here are our tips for all of our hourglass Goddesses out there.
1. Flattering styles
Since you're slimmest at the waist, you'll want to find clothing that really accentuates that for you. Tops or dresses that have a wrap feature around the waist are particularly good, and so are coats or maxi dresses where you can put a belt around the waist.
Another great technique is to tuck your shirt into your skirt, shorts or jeans. Peplum tops or dress are another great style because they flare out at your narrowest point. It really shows off your figure in an amazing way!
With an hourglass figure, you have to be very mindful of how certain things fit on your body. For example, stay away from overly baggy clothes because it makes you look much bigger than you really are, often more boxy than curvy.
If it's too tight it will be uncomfortable and actually draw attention to the areas you don't want to. Fitted sweaters as opposed to oversized, or pencil skirts as opposed to loose skirts are some examples for you to try out. Stretch fabrics and knits are some fabrics that are great for tops.
Pairing a fitted tee or long-sleeve with a mini skirt is also a fantastic styling option! It draws attention to your waist and really shows off your legs too.
3. The under garments
For an hourglass shape, it's so important to have the right support under your clothes. If your bra is too tight it'll dig into you and really show through all your tops. For your underwear, opt for seamless or perhaps high-waisted types that won't show the outline of your underwear through pants, tights or skirts.
Having the right fitting under garments will help you not only feel comfortable everyday, but also help make your clothes look better. No seam lines will be showing, and nothing will be cutting into you.
4. Work styling
Styling yourself for work is often quite different to casual wear. Here, you will want to try tailored slim fitting pants with a will fitted blouse. Remember to tuck the shirt in too! Pair it all with a waist belt as well to draw attention to the waist.
In winter, pair your regular outfit with a stylish plain trench coat. You can either tie the belt on the back to cinch in the coat a bit, or tie it around your waist. You have to be careful with this though because some specific styles don't look that great when tied up from the front.
High-waisted skirts are such a great idea for you hourglass figures. They go pretty much with any type of top and effortlessly cinches in that waist!
If you are going to wear a power suit, you really need to have it a fitted and/or tailored look. Baggy type blazers would not look good, so try all the slim fit suits you can until you find the perfect one!
If you want to get some real fashion inspiration, check out women like Ashley Graham, Iskra Lawerence, Sofia Vergara, Kim Kardashian or Beyonce. Of course they have professional stylists and funds for unlimited amount of clothes, but there are always cheaper alternatives!
If you see someone wearing something you think looks flattering, just try to find the same thing but cheaper somewhere else.
So to sum this all up, hourglass figured women want to accentuate the waist and draw attention to their womanly figure. There are many styling issues you should stay away from just like any other body shape. However, there are also just as many great options that will help make you look very flattering!
